4-year-olds/vpk

Our VPK program prepares children for kindergarten through a balanced approach to academics, creativity, and faith. Children build strong foundations in reading, math, and problem-solving. Our program supports the whole child — academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Preparation for a smooth and confident transition to kindergarten

At St. Sebastian Academy, we believe that preparing 4-year-olds for kindergarten includes helping them become confident and independent during lunchtime.

In elementary school, children often have only about 30 minutes for lunch. Learning how to manage that time appropriately is an important school-readiness skill that helps children feel more successful and confident as they transition into kindergarten.

Our lunch routines help children learn:

To eat their nutritious meal items first before treats or snacks

How to manage their time during lunch

Independence with opening containers, lunch packaging, and drinks

Responsibility for their personal belongings and cleanup

Patience, manners, and positive social interaction with peers

When children are unable to open lunch items independently, they may spend much of their lunch period waiting for assistance and may not have enough time to finish their meal. By practicing these important self-help skills in preschool, children gain confidence and become better prepared for the routines and expectations of elementary school.

Our teachers gently guide and encourage children throughout the process, helping them build independence, confidence, and healthy habits that support long-term academic and social success.
